The word list

Optimist

An optimist is someone who always sees the bright side of any situation — a trait that can be either encouraging or annoying, depending on your frame of mind.

Cristopher says - it is gonna rain today 100 percent no chance
Sai says - no Chris be positive if you want to play outside let's cross our fingers and it won't rain

At the end of the day it hadn't rained and Sai the optimist was right.

Pessimist
Pessimist is always the worst it is the opposite of optimist

Chris is a pessimist he is never on the bright side.

Oscillate

On a hot day, you’ll be happy to have a fan that can oscillate, meaning it moves back and forth in a steady motion.

The pendulum kept swinging back and forth so a pendulum is a oscillate

Cog

An engine needs each of its part to work. It has gears which have wheels. Each wheel has cogs, or tiny teeth that fit together, making the wheel turn, the engine run. Every cog is essential to that engine.

I added the cog to the engine to add the flair it needed and then when I tested it, it went very well, the car steered and turned and had the right brake stop.

Chime

a percussion instrument consisting of a set of tuned bells that are struck with a hammer; used as an orchestral instrument

I hit the chime and it bleated out bannnnnngggggg

Dynasty

A dynasty is a series of leaders in the same family, like the British Royal Family, or a local business dynasty, in which four generations have made their fortune at the family store.

I am in the dynasty of the first king

Heir

If your grandfather leaves his candy factory to you in his will, it means you're the heir to the family candy business, and after your grandfather dies, you will inherit the factory.

I am the heir of the barber shop

Glower

If you see someone glower at you, you might consider glowering back, but no one likes an angry staring contest. To glower is not only to stare, it's to stare angrily, as if you're going to throttle someone.

I hate to be in a flower contest with Jay

Raymond's run

Raymond's run is realistic fiction and a coming of age story
Realistic Fiction:
➖After that is the forty-yard dash which I used to run when I was in first grade.
This is because the forty-yard dash is an event that could actually happen.
➖Every time, just before I take off in a race, I always feel like I’m in a dream, the kind of dream you have when you’re sick with fever and feel all hot and weightless.
Because if you're sick and have a fever its most likely you are human.

Coming of age:
➖After that is the forty-yard dash which I used to run when I was in first grade.
Because she's  in first grade so she must be young.
➖my brother Raymond, a great runner in the family tradition.
This is a coming of age because she only realizes at the end that Raymond in a great runner.

scholarship jacket

The scholarship jacket is coming of age and realistic fiction.

Coming of age

“So if you are unable to pay the fifteen dollars for the jacket it will be given to the next one in line.” This is coming of age becuase she needs to make a choice if she will pay or if she will not pay for the jacket.

I was fourteen and in the eighth grade. This is coming of age because in coming of age there are young people in this story there is young people.

Realistic fiction

In May, close to graduation, spring fever had struck as usual with a vengeance.  This is realistic fiction because in all schools you graduate and this is event that could happen in a school.

The small Texas school that I went , this is realistic fiction because Texas is a modern place.

Clockwork

Clockwork is a suspense, fantasy, mystery and a science fiction.

Suspense
"And that was the man who"
That is suspense because the sentence hasn't been completed and we don't know who

'What's he he doing? That sword is sharp - stop it,Doctor! Make it stop!"
The sentence is involving some sort of danger with the sword there mifpght be some fighting going on

Fantasy
"What is that tune? Said Karl. Why does he stop for that ? It is a little tune called the flowers of Lapland."
Normally a clock cannot talk so this is unrealistic so it is a fantasy based sentence.

"The old cat Putzi was sitting outside, licking his paws, it was cold outside"
It is unrealistic for a cat to be sitting outside for a long time without wearing and winter clothes and not freeze and the fact that he was still showed that he wasn't feeling cold.

Mystery
Oh this is impossible How can i write an ending to the story
This builds up tense to the story that fritz couldn't complete the story and he will do it there meaning he will have to say random words.

Oh Gretl be careful stop don't say it ah too late
This is a mystery sentence because you don't know what Gretl has to say and it is a curse add to that, that you don't know who said that.

Suspense
Trouble will come of this it always pays to be polite even to dumb creatures
This is said by a ghost which we don't know

I hope it is a nice bloody murder
They are planing a murder

all summer in a day

All Summer in a Day is a Suspense and Science Fiction story

SUSPENSE
"Behind the closet door was only silence."
This is a suspense sentence because you don't know what Margot is doing behind the closet.

"They stood in the doorway of the underground for a moment until it was raining hard. Then they closed the door and heard the gigantic sound of the rain falling in tons and avalanches, everywhere and forever."
This is a suspense sentence because it just makes the reader pause for a moment. The mind of the reader would be like rain splashing on the ground immediately. It was rain again in Venus it was a small gap of ran after 7 long years of rain on the planet.

SCI-FI
"And this was the way life was forever on the planet Venus"
It is impossible and totally unrealistic to live in Venus.
"It had been raining for seven years"
This is science fiction because it is technically impossible to rein for 7 years on earth.

sound of thunder

Sound of thunder
• Is a suspense and a science fiction.A Sound of Thunder is a Science Fiction and Suspense story.
• "A real time Machine, makes you think"
• A time machine is a technology of the future or a partially true scientific theory.
• "He indicated a metal Path that struck off into green wilderness." The metal path is futuristic
because it floats.
• "We were fools to come. This is impossible." Eckels says this when the dinosaur is first seen. It
creates suspense by making the reader feel what he feels.
• " Does this Safari guarantee that I come back alive?" This quote at the beginning of the story
creates suspense about what will happen.
• " His face was numb, his mouth trembled." This is a reaction to the realization that the world has
changed. We are in suspense because we can 'feel' his fear and we don't know how much has
changed.
• These quotes prove that the story is suspense and science fiction

landlady

The landlady
• The events take place in Bath
• "Billy Weaver had traveled down from London on the slow afternoon train, with a change
at Reading on the way, and by the time he got to Bath, it was about nine o’clock in the
evening, and the moon was coming up out of a clear starry sky over the houses opposite
the station entrance."
•
It is a suspense story because there are only two people who stayed or lived in the
hotel.
"He found the guest book lying open on the piano, so he took out his pen and wrote
down his name and address."

There were only two other entries above his on the page,
and as one always does with guest books, he started to read them. One was a
Christopher Mulholland from Cardiff. The other was Gregory W. Temple from Bristol.

It is a realistic fiction because the characters are human and they could exist.

It is a mystery because Billy Weaver thinks he has heard of the names Christopher Mulloland
and George W Temple and he is trying to find them out.

"I’m almost positive I’ve heard
those names before somewhere. Isn’t that odd? Maybe it was in the newspapers. They
weren’t famous in any way, were they? I mean famous cricketers7 or footballers or
something like that?”
